I had the pleasure of spending an evening with Jon Hare this week - the aim was to get a number of Wizball canvasses signed for some of those who pledged on the C64 in Pixels book - I had some Sensible Soccer canvasses needing signing also for the Amiga in Pixels book, so I though I know, I will kill two birds with one stone.
As well as the signing session, I was given an opportunity to play Sociable Soccer - a new game coming out this August with a major wink and a nudge at the Sensible Soccer, Pro Evo and Fifa series. I scored my first goal within 30 seconds - the controls are so intuitive and the game, even only 51% complete (it says so on the opening screen) already plays brilliantly. I cannot wait to get my mitts on the final game.
I played 1v1 with Jon and he thrashed me - one game was 6-0 to him. This is one ultra fast game of football that retro fans will adore.
We went to the local Indian for a curry and talked about Sensible Software and how times have changed since the 90s in getting a game out to a gaming audience. When we got back to his place a little later in the evening, he signed the canvasses (one with a personal message to me!).
Here's a picture of Jon showing off one of the signed Sensible Soccer canvasses:
